Mickael Heizer digs, lifts and organizes and raises incredible masses of earth, sand and monumental sculptures in the middle of the American desert, a stone’s throw from Area 51 👽

With his father, he was a teenager wandering through ruins in Latin America in the jungle. ⁣⁣⁣

⁣Like other artists, Mickaël wonders, in my opinion, about what our civilization will leave behind. ⁣⁣⁣

What will be our brands on earth in such an uncertain future from the point of view of our natural environment and our relationship with others ?

How will archaeologists of future generations look at it ? ⁣⁣⁣Perhaps they will judge us less than we do… ⁣⁣⁣

Michael’s research in this video begins at the dawn of the domestic nuclear age, at a time when anti-nuclear refuges are being dug. Then continues, for me, as an image that reminds me of the portraits of these American presidents on a mountain… ⁣⁣⁣

I wonder if the models (patterns for whom, for what culture ?) and the walls built around us and between us, under the pretext that they were longer (or worse, that they protect us…) are more important than leaving memories of ties and dialogues behind us ? ⁣⁣⁣

I prefer more than stones – even if sponsorship and heritage are also part of my family DNA – and portraits, all if our stories, voices, songs and dances – of course 😉 – also when it comes to remembering who was the one before me and especially how he thought, acted, had fun, what her/his values were… ⁣⁣⁣

I can draw all this, it is a trace… ⁣⁣⁣

But what I did may also be found, I hope, in another language, through oral transmission. ⁣⁣⁣

With digital technology, the urgency of earning a living or simply maintaining a standard of living and the race for immediate experiences, I no longer hear the sound of this oral transmission. ⁣⁣⁣

Looking at things and reading give very contemporary visual cues. Sûre. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
But I also believe deeply in the time I take to listen, share and transmit emotions in the direct connection throught a community process here & IRL. ⁣⁣⁣

Perhaps this is one of the reasons for the success of podcasts today far than just “i can listen it my car” ?⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Will the marks I see here on this post, in this gallery or in the desert, well organized and as vast as the field of my will as a man determined to survive and who conquered the earth and the Moon and soon Mars be the true witness of a man’s life or just the fruit of my wildest desires. ⁣⁣⁣

..in a world where these desires also have a responsibility in some of the greatest inequalities…⁣⁣⁣

I like the greatness of Michael’s work at Gagosian here. When I came into contact with it, I felt feelings of space and control over the time I sometimes feel in front of the Eiffel Tower, which I also had forgotten since Angkor too in Cambodia. ⁣⁣⁣

I find it hard to believe that men finance this work and make the desert, where everything disappears one day – animals, rivers and on the other hemisphere side of the Hittites and Egyptians – a place of creation as in Nazca. ⁣⁣⁣

It’s also something I love in the human being, no crazy project stops us when the heart and will animate a story to tell… ⁣⁣⁣

With art, from time to time, words are insufficient, you have to see and feel it on contact with it. ⁣⁣⁣
